After an extensive vetting process, the Independence Caucus has endorsed my candidacy for the US House. They support grassroots candidates that stand for limited government, fiscal responsibility, adherence to Constitutional Authority, and a commitment to representing the people and not the political establishment or special interests.

I'm pleased to announce that I've been added to LIBERTY SLATE 2010. This organization identifes those U.S. House candidates that share their dedication to the Constitutional principles of limited government, individual liberty, and personal responsibility. There aren't many candidates that make it on this list - I consider it a privilege.

I would like to recognize the man that has been leading the charge to unseat Bob Etheridge for the past few years: Dan Mansell. Dan, a successful businessman himself, ran against Etheridge despite Obama-mania during the last election. He didn't shy away from the hard fight. He knows as well as anyone about the challenges facing the 2nd District.

When I first considered a run to take back our US House seat from Etheridge, I reached out to Dan. As we got to know one another, he's offered wise counsel and I've come to have even greater respect for him. While Dan opted to not run for office, he has officially announced his endorsement for my campaign. I would like to express my thanks for that vote of confidence as well as his excellent introduction last night in Johnston County. Dan, I won't let you down.

If you've talked to me for more than a few minutes you know my disdain for business-as-usual in D.C. and career politicians like Bob Etheridge (who is campaigning for his 16th year in Congress); they are disconnected from their constituents and seek to govern us rather than represent us. I want to reform that broken system of government.

However, I've met many folks who have heard this story before. Unlike them, I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is.  I will legally obligate myself to turn over a substantial share of all of my assets to charity if I even files for more than 3 consecutive terms in the US House; this is the equivalent of 1 term in the US Senate.

On Feb 19th, 2010, Todd Gailas has made it official; he filed with the NC State Board of Elections in his bid to give the citizens of North Carolina's Second District a real voice in Washington.

UPDATE:

It was a good run but we were unsuccessful in winning to primary. This would have been the first step in returning our country to its citizens.  I encourage you to stay motivated. _____________

Fellow North Carolinians,

Thank you for visiting my campaign site. As I travel through North Carolina's Second Congressional District (NC-2), I am humbled and honored by your support and desire to elect me as your voice in Washington. I am committed to working for you and with you to restore our nation to what our Founding Fathers envisioned... the Land of the Free. After witnessing Congressional disregard for Constitution and the wishes of their constituents, we must make a change and the time is now. It will be a team effort and will require some hard choices and strong leadership, but there is hope.

I've experienced first-hand how unconstitutional government policies have crippled a thriving business. Like many businesses, my automobile dealership relied on lines of credit to purchase inventory for resale. After we sell our inventory, we have the funds to pay back the loans, operate the business, and pay the members of our team. Our credit was exemplary and we were very successful. Yet, Bob Etheridge and others in Congress supported initiatives that  limited small business lending regardless of credit-worthiness and halted our ability to purchase inventory. Etheridge helped shut down our business and cost 25 hard-working North Carolinians their jobs. It also stopped the opening of a new location with 40 new jobs planned. Personally, I was devastated; I nearly lost my livelihood, my home and it contributed to the failure of my marriage. Since then, we have reopened for business and are re-hiring our employees. But, this is in spite of the government rather than as a result of it. If given the opportunity, I'll represent you and your families rather than special interests. No one should suffer this way at the hands of an official sworn to represent our interests.

I invite you to explore this site to learn more about my qualifications, education and background. Most importantly, you will find in writing my stance on various issues impacting us today as well as recommendations for curing our government-induced crises.  These positions are based on the common-sense simple principles of upholding the Constitution, reduced government spending, safeguarding our freedom, promoting a limited government, and encouraging free enterprise so that we may all prosper.

Sadly, based upon voting records, it appears that Congressman Bob Etheridge either opposes these principles or refuses to take a stand in support of them. While you may or may not agree with my position on a certain issue, at least you will know where I stand. If I betray that trust you place in me, I expect to be held accountable just as Congressman Etheridge needs to be held accountable now. I challenge you to get informed about the candidates and show the courage to vote on principle rather than party lines.

I am not a career politician; I am a small business owner who understands the hard times we are experiencing. I've experienced first-hand how unconstitutional government policies have crippled a thriving business and cost 25 hard-working North Carolinians their jobs. I am disgusted at the way Congressman Etheridge caters to special interest groups and provides corporate welfare to Wall Street at the expense of everyday citizens on Main Street. While we are struggling to make ends meet, Congress takes our tax dollars to redistribute to their major campaign donors. Fortunately, I am not bound by any obligations to these special interest groups. It's time for politicians to set aside personal agendas in order to serve their constituents and uphold the Constitution they took an oath to defend.

In his 14 years in Washington, DC, Congressman Etheridge has lost touch with the citizens of Second District; this has never been more apparent than during this past year. He has strongly supported an unconstitutional government move to takeover the financial and auto manufacturing industries, socialize health care, and destroy small business. His voting record clearly shows he supported the events triggering our current recession. With double-digit unemployment, the price is too high to keep Bob Etheridge. It is time to replace him with representative that understands what it means to be a North Carolinian.

Let's restore the values and priorities that have made the United States, North Carolina and the Second District such a wonderful place to raise our families, prosper in our businesses, and grow in the right direction. To do that, I need your vote and your support. Together, we can make this happen. We will return the US House of Representatives to the citizens of our great country in 2010!
